“He’s Always Got Your Back”

The Challenge: Carol built Carrier Services over 38 years—six people, some part-time, everything in her head. She didn’t think a small freight brokerage would have any marketability. She tried to sell once before with another consultant, but they lost interest after about six months. Carol was discouraged and disenchanted.

What We Did:

  • Asked not just the right questions but a lot of questions Carol hadn’t even considered
  • Created spreadsheets and reports that showed her business in ways she’d never seen it
  • Identified that “the business was Carol”—her customer relationships were the core asset
  • Helped her find a buyer who understood that customer service and transition mattered
  • Sat in the background during buyer meetings, jumped in when needed

The Outcome:

  • Found marketability where Carol thought there was none
  • Successful exit after failed first attempt with another advisor
  • All employees transitioned with the sale
  • Two-year contract allowed Carol to retire comfortably after 38 years
  • Customers placed with buyer who valued those 30-year relationships

In Carol’s Words: “Yes, I would definitely consider Black Belt. You can rely on that and know that it’s a safe space because he’s always got your back. I know that those are words that sound like a marketing ploy or something along those lines. That’s really not what it is.”
